CORROSION-RESISTANT TITANIUM
Why Choose Grade 12 Titanium?
Grade 12 titanium, commonly identified as Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni, is a corrosion-resistant titanium alloy developed for demanding process environments. The controlled additions of molybdenum and nickel improve performance in conditions where commercially pure titanium may require additional resistance to localized or reducing corrosion.
Grade 12 combines useful mechanical strength with corrosion resistance and fabrication characteristics suitable for industrial process equipment. Material selection should always be confirmed against the actual chemical concentration, temperature, pressure and service conditions of the application.
Corrosion Resistance in Reducing Environments
Ti-0.3Mo-0.8Ni is often considered for chemical environments involving mildly reducing conditions and applications where resistance to localized corrosion is important. Compared with unalloyed commercially pure titanium grades, Grade 12 can provide improved performance in selected aggressive process conditions.
Suitability depends on the complete operating environment, including solution chemistry, concentration, temperature, contaminants, flow conditions and equipment design. These factors should be reviewed before the final material specification is selected.
Chemical Processing and Heat Exchanger Applications
Grade 12 titanium is used in chemical processing equipment, heat exchangers, piping systems, pressure-related components and other industrial equipment exposed to corrosive process media. Its combination of corrosion resistance and engineering properties makes it useful for applications where long service life and material reliability are important.
For heat exchanger and process equipment requirements, buyers should define the product form, dimensions, wall thickness where applicable, operating conditions, fabrication requirements and required inspection or testing documentation.
Crevice Corrosion and Supply Requirements
Grade 12 may be specified where improved resistance to crevice corrosion is required under appropriate service conditions. Equipment geometry, joints, deposits, temperature and process chemistry can influence localized corrosion behavior and should be considered during material selection.
