SIZE & TOLERANCE GUIDANCE
Titanium Bar Diameter, Size & Tolerance
Titanium bar dimensions and tolerances should be selected according to
the applicable material specification, bar diameter, manufacturing route
and end-use requirements. EST Metal supplies titanium bar and rod for
industrial, machining and engineering applications, with dimensional
requirements reviewed against the customer's specification or drawing.
Titanium Bar Diameter
The current EST Metal website reference range for titanium bar is
3–350 mm diameter, with lengths from 100 to 6000 mm. Availability depends on
titanium grade, diameter, quantity, surface condition and required
processing.
Diameter Tolerance
Diameter tolerance is not one universal value for every titanium bar.
The applicable tolerance depends on the ordered diameter, specification,
production condition and customer requirement. Where a drawing or
project specification defines a tighter dimensional requirement, it
should be stated clearly in the RFQ for technical review.
Straightness and Length Tolerance
Straightness and length requirements can be important for machining,
long bars and precision components. These requirements should be
confirmed according to the applicable standard and purchase order rather
than assumed from a general stock size.
Surface Condition and Machining Allowance
Titanium bar may be supplied in different surface conditions depending
on the product and order requirements. Surface condition can affect the
usable finished diameter and machining allowance, so peeled, ground,
polished or other requested conditions should be identified when
requesting a quotation.
ASTM B348 and Customer Specifications
ASTM B348 is a commonly referenced specification for titanium and
titanium alloy bar and billet. Final dimensional requirements,
tolerances, grade, heat treatment, testing and certification should be
confirmed against the applicable specification and purchase order.
What to Include in a Titanium Bar RFQ
For accurate technical review, include the titanium grade, diameter,
length, quantity, applicable standard, surface condition, required
tolerance and any drawing or inspection requirements.
