TITANIUM SHEET & PLATE TECHNICAL GUIDE

Titanium Sheet & Plate Specifications

EST Metal supplies titanium sheet and plate for industrial, chemical processing, marine, medical and engineering applications. Material selection normally starts with the required titanium grade, thickness, sheet or plate dimensions, surface condition and governing specification. For procurement, these details should be confirmed together with quantity, testing and certification requirements.

ASTM B265 Titanium Sheet and Plate

ASTM B265 is a commonly specified standard for titanium and titanium alloy strip, sheet and plate. Depending on the project, material may be supplied in commercially pure titanium grades or titanium alloys. The applicable grade and specification should always be stated on the purchase order or RFQ so that chemical composition, mechanical properties and other requirements can be reviewed correctly.

Common Titanium Grades

Grade 1 and Grade 2 are commercially pure titanium grades often selected where corrosion resistance and formability are important. Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V) is widely used when higher strength is required. Grade 7 provides enhanced corrosion resistance through palladium alloying, while Grade 12 is commonly considered for demanding corrosion and heat-exchanger service. Final grade selection should be based on the operating environment, design requirements and applicable material specification.

Thickness and Dimensions

Titanium sheet and plate requirements should identify nominal thickness, width and length. Buyers should also state any dimensional tolerance, flatness or cut-size requirement that is important to downstream fabrication. Standard mill sizes and custom cut dimensions can be reviewed against the requested grade, thickness and quantity.

Surface Condition and Processing

Surface requirements depend on the intended application and subsequent manufacturing process. Titanium sheet and plate may require mill, pickled, cleaned, ground or other specified surface conditions. Additional processing such as cutting or preparation to customer dimensions can be reviewed when drawings and detailed requirements are provided.

Testing and Certification

Procurement documentation should define the required material specification and inspection scope. Material test reports can be reviewed for chemical composition and mechanical properties according to the applicable specification. If a project requires additional inspection, testing, traceability or documentation, these requirements should be included in the RFQ before production or shipment.

Typical Applications

Titanium sheet and plate are used in chemical processing equipment, heat exchangers, marine components, industrial fabrication, medical equipment and other corrosion-resistant or weight-sensitive applications. The correct grade and product condition depend on temperature, media, mechanical loading, fabrication method and service environment.

How to Specify Titanium Sheet & Plate

A complete inquiry should normally include the titanium grade, applicable standard such as ASTM B265, thickness, width, length, quantity, surface condition, dimensional requirements and any inspection or certification needs. Providing these details allows EST Metal to review material availability and quotation requirements more efficiently.

PURCHASING GUIDE

Titanium Sheet and Titanium Plate Supply to ASTM B265

EST Metal supplies titanium sheet and titanium plate for industrial, chemical processing, marine, medical equipment and engineering applications. Material can be specified by titanium grade, ASTM B265 requirements, thickness, width, length, surface condition and downstream processing requirements.

Titanium sheet and plate requirements vary according to the application. Thin sheet may be selected for formed components, covers, fabricated assemblies and equipment parts, while heavier titanium plate is commonly specified for structural components, machined parts, corrosion-resistant equipment and engineered fabrication.

ASTM B265 Titanium Sheet and Plate

ASTM B265 is a commonly referenced specification for titanium and titanium alloy strip, sheet and plate. When applicable, the purchase order or RFQ should identify the required grade, dimensions, quantity, surface condition and any additional inspection or documentation requirements.

Common material selections include commercially pure titanium such as Grade 1 and Grade 2, together with titanium alloys such as Grade 5 Ti-6Al-4V. Final grade selection should be based on corrosion resistance, strength, forming requirements, fabrication method and the service environment.

Thickness, Dimensions and Tolerance Requirements

For titanium sheet or titanium plate enquiries, buyers should specify nominal thickness, width and length together with the applicable dimensional tolerance. Where flatness, edge condition or other special dimensional requirements are important, these should also be stated on the RFQ so that production feasibility can be reviewed before quotation.

Thickness and dimensional requirements should be confirmed against the applicable material specification and project drawing. Custom dimensions and cut-to-size requirements can be reviewed for projects where standard mill sizes are not suitable.

Cut-to-Size, Waterjet and Machining Requirements

Titanium plate and sheet can require additional processing before final fabrication. Depending on size, thickness and drawing requirements, cut-to-size supply, waterjet cutting or machining requirements can be reviewed as part of the enquiry.

If parts will be machined after delivery, buyers should identify critical dimensions, machining allowance and any surface or edge requirements. For engineered components, drawings can be submitted with the RFQ for technical review.

Surface Condition and Inspection

Surface condition should be selected according to the intended application and subsequent fabrication process. Where appearance, cleanliness, surface quality, flatness or inspection criteria are important, these requirements should be stated before production.

Inspection requirements may include dimensional verification, material identification and review of specified mechanical or chemical requirements according to the applicable order and specification.

Mill Test Report, MTR and Material Certification

When required by the purchase order, material documentation can include a mill test report (MTR) or other specified material certification. Documentation requirements should be identified at the RFQ stage so that traceability, testing and certification requirements can be reviewed before quotation.

Lead Time and Custom Titanium Sheet & Plate Supply

Lead time depends on titanium grade, thickness, dimensions, quantity, processing requirements and documentation requirements. Standard material and custom cut-to-size orders may therefore have different production schedules.

To receive an accurate quotation and lead time, provide the complete material specification together with required quantity and delivery requirements.

What to Include in Your Titanium Sheet or Plate RFQ

A complete titanium sheet or titanium plate enquiry should normally include the grade, applicable standard such as ASTM B265, thickness, width, length, quantity, dimensional tolerances, surface condition, processing requirements and certification requirements.
